(10 June 2019, Hong Kong) The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) is hosting the International Engineering Alliance Meetings (IEAM) 2019 from 9 to 14 June 2019 at the Crowne Plaza Hong Kong Kowloon East, with an aim to provide a phenomenal experience for International Engineering Alliance (IEA) members in reaching the international benchmarked standards for engineering education and expected competence for engineering practice through the serial of Educational Accords and Competence Agreements. The IEAM is an annual one-week working meeting hosting in different cities, and this year’s Meetings has attracted around 200 delegates across the world. The HKIE is honoured to have the Honourable Matthew CHEUNG Kin Chung, GBM, GBS, JP, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, to be our Guest-of-Honour at the Opening Ceremony.

The IEA is a global not-for-profit organisation comprising members from 37 jurisdictions within 28 countries/regions, across seven international accords and agreements. These international agreements govern the recognition of engineering education qualifications and professional competence from technician grade to professional engineers of all disciplines, which in turn enable mobility of the profession.

The professionalism of the Hong Kong engineering community is internationally recognised. To enhance the competence and professionalism of the industry, the HKIE actively communicates and cooperates with professional bodies in engineering around the world. The HKIE is the signatories/authorised members of several international organisations and agreements, such as the Washington Accord, Sydney Accord, APEC Engineering Agreement, International Professional Engineers Agreement and International Engineering Technologists Agreement.
