附錄

(26 August 2025, Hong Kong) – The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (hereafter “the HKIE”) held a media gathering today, introducing “Together we RISE”, the HKIE’s Theme for Session 2024/2025. The theme highlights the profession’s core values of Resilience, Innovation, Sustainability and Equity which unite the industry. The HKIE also welcomed its first female President Ir Alice Chow in its 50-year history, marking a significant milestone in the industry’s commitment to diversity, inclusion and sustainability.

Ir Alice Chow, President of the HKIE, said, “As society continues to evolve, the engineering industry must break through traditional frameworks and unite to foster cross-sector collaboration and technological innovation. The HKIE will continue to champion diversity, inclusion and sustainability, while supporting engineers in their long-term career development, to help the industry attract and retain talent.”

Four Areas of Focus to Foster the Development of Engineering Industry

  1. Nurturing and Expanding the Engineering I&T Ecosystem – By introducing initiatives such as Enginpreneurs, which supports engineers in realising innovative pursuits, advocates for the implementation of engineering I&T, and organises industry networking events, the HKIE aims to unite the engineering industry, enhance professional skills, promote knowledge exchange, and encouraging the industry in adopting emerging technologies to drive innovation and development.
  2. Fostering Sustainability in Engineering – Conducts research, communication and promotional work on SDGs, and publishes the UNSDGs eBook which showcases sustainable engineering projects in Hong Kong to inspire engineers and encourage sustainable practices in the industry. Furthermore, the HKIE continues the tradition of participation in international SDGs dialogue, and is preparing to attend the COP30 in Brazil in November 2025.
  3. Preparing for the Future of Engineering – Promotes cross-sector collaboration, conducting in-depth research on convergence across fields– particularly the evolving definitions of “professional” and “disciplines” within higher education–and to devise strategies for advancing future talent development initiatives.
  4. Strengthening Advocacy in New Areas – Engages government authorities, industry organisations and other stakeholders to address issues affecting job loss, industry challenges, and workforce support. The HKIE also advocates policies that support job creation, economic restructuring, and workforce development. Additionally, the HKIE focuses on the development of emerging sectors such as I&T, new quality productive forces, and new industrialisation.

Recognising Hong Kong’s role as a “super-connector”, the HKIE is actively expanding its presence in mainland China and overseas. The Institution has established a dedicated task force related to GBA standardisation. It also plans to host an exhibition in Beijing to showcase Hong Kong’s engineering achievements, and by facilitating the “Professional Title mechanism, create pathways for engineers seeking career opportunities in mainland China.

Highlights of the HKIE’s 50th Anniversary Celebratory Activities

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the HKIE has launched a series of activities to reflect on past achievements, showcase the strengths of its 22 Disciplines, and build for the future. Key activities include:

  • The HKIE 50th Anniversary Legacy Award and “Engineering Legacy: 50 Years of Excellence” Exhibition: A review of Hong Kong’s engineering projects over the past 50 years to celebrate outstanding projects; selected winning projects will be showcased at roving exhibitions (19 August – 14 September, Urban Sky, 9/F Hysan Place) to enhance public understanding of the engineering profession
  • “Together we RISE” Carnival: To take place this coming December, the Carnival aims to present the diversity of engineering disciplines and careers to the public and highlight the contribution of engineers to society in an interesting and easy-to-understand way, thereby attracting young talents to join the industry

President Ir Chow emphasised, “From the reclamation of Victoria Harbour to development of Northern Metropolis, Hong Kong engineers have always been the backbone driving the city’s transformation. As we celebrate our Golden Jubilee, we are committed not only to building on our legacy of engineering excellence, but also to demonstrating diverse development prospects through cross-sector collaboration in infrastructure innovation, green technology, and smart cities. These emerging fields present immense opportunities and provide a vibrant platform for young talent to pursue their ambitions. Now is a pivotal moment for the new generation of engineers to seize the opportunities of our time. As the city’s development needs converge with the wave of technological innovation, professional expertise will be the core driving force shaping a sustainable future.”

In addition, the HKIE has submitted its views regarding the Policy Address to be released in September. See Appendix for key points of the HKIE’s views.
