2015-03-26

Hong Kong's aviation industry is well-respected around the world and is home to a number of the world's biggest airlines and leading aircraft maintenance organisations. The outlook of our aviation industry is very positive; however, in order to prepare for the future demand, manpower development is supremely important to the long-term sustainability of our aviation industry.

If you are looking for a rewarding career in an inspiring industry; a career that will provide you with a chance to work with some of the world's leading airlines; and a career where you can play a vital role in keeping thousands of aircrafts and people in the sky every day, you will find that career at HAECO, Hong Kong's leading provider of maintenance, repair and overhaul services.

Career path to become a licensed aircraft maintenance engineer at HAECO

Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Limited (HAECO) has been the breeding ground for nurturing licensed aircraft maintenance engineers since 1950. With a well-structured Graduate Trainee programme, trainees will not only acquire professional status in the aviation industry in a reduced timeframe, but will also climb up the career ladder at HAECO faster than ordinary graduates.

Once joined HAECO, trainees will be given the opportunities to undergo on-the-job training at different departments and familiarise themselves with aircraft maintenance practices, aircraft design principles and construction, systems operation, inventory management, maintenance planning and control, aviation legislations and safety management.

In addition, they will be entitled to various practical workshops and regular examination preparation seminars offered by the Technical Training School located at the Tseung Kwan O premises.

The hands-on practical experience and the classroom knowledge they gain are the two key success factors for gaining their license qualification with Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department (HKCAD).

Furthermore, in appreciation of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE)'s learning and development philosophy, HAECO supports trainees' road to the HKIE Corporate Membership by registering them with the two-year Scheme A Training.

Since HAECO's accreditation by the HKIE as an approved organisation in May 2012, the first cohort of 13 Scheme A trainees have successfully completed their training in the aircraft discipline in mid-2014. They are all confident in the acquisition of the Corporate Membership in the near future.

HAECO trainees not only pursue excellence in aircraft maintenance services provision, but also engage actively in community services. By participating as ambassadors and demonstrators at the HKIE event, “Discover Aviation 2014”, HAECO trainees helped to promote the aviation industry to the public. Furthermore, they also represented the airport community in the Green Power Hike 2014 organised by Green Power in support of environmental betterment. Moreover, they participated in the Hong Kong Grand Prix Pedal Kart 2013 and 2014 organised by the Association of Round Tables in Hong Kong to raise fund for children in need in Hong Kong and China.

In the recent Management Game 2014 organised by the Hong Kong Management Association, they displayed strategic management skills in a simulated management environment and came third in the competitive Hong Kong final round.

People are the most important asset at HAECO. Hence, staff communication is emphasised and feedback from staff who injects innovation and creativity into the company is highly valued.

Throughout the training period (30 months maximum), each trainee will be personally mentored by a senior staff in the company who offers coaching and guidance for their professional development. In return, they will take an active role in company-wise projects such as Annual Staff Survey, Best Supervisor Award, various Green-belt improvement projects etc under the supervision of the senior management.

Regarding their personal development, the Staff Development Department is responsible for addressing their training needs and career progression based on a robust tailor-made individual development plan so that they can unleash their leadership and management potential in the most appropriate capacity.

With the aim of preparing them for the middle management positions in the shortest possible time (4 years), HAECO's senior management is always in full support of all initiatives concerning the development of the aspiring trainees.
