Join us in celebrating a half-century of engineering excellence! As the HKIE gears up to mark its 50th anniversary in 2025, we are excited to announce the launch of a special mascot design competition. We invite all our talented members to unleash their creativity and craft a vibrant and distinctive mascot that embodies the spirit of this momentous occasion. The winning design has the chance to become the official anniversary mascot.

Eligibility

 

All participants should be current members of the HKIE, belonging to any class, at the time of the submission deadline.

 

*The HKIE has the final decision on the eligibility of the participants.

 

Requirements

 

We invite you to create a mascot that embodies a blend of youthfulness, energy, intelligence, and professionalism with a touch of trendiness. We are looking for a design that is not only visually appealing but also practical, versatile, and adaptable for various formats, sizes, and platforms including print, digital media, displays, merchandises, and more.

 

All submissions must be original creations by the participants. Plagiarism will not be tolerated, and entries using pre-made art or generated by artificial intelligence will not be considered. We value and seek your unique creativity and originality to shine through in your submission.

 

Submission Format

 

  • The entry should include a three-view drawing, presenting the mascot design in three views: the front view, the top view, and a side view.
  • All entries should be presented on a PDF document with a 300dpi output resolution, accompanied by a short statement outlining the design concept pre rationale (no more than 150 words in English or 300 words in Chinese). The images should measure no smaller than 20cm x 20xm, and the file size should be between 1MB and 5MB.
  • Digital file(s) of the mascot should also be provided in vector format (.ai or .eps) and .jpg (minimum size 1000px x 1000px) separately.

 

Submission Method

 

  • All submissions and the Application Form must be delivered to the Panel of Judges by the deadline via email at 50th_mascot@hkie.org.hk with the email subject line“The HKIE 50th Anniversary Mascot Design Competition_Participant’s Name”. To prevent potential disputes, participants are strongly encouraged to avoid making submissions at the last minute. Lates submissions will not be considered.
  • No application fee is required. However, all costs required for submissions, if any, are to be borne by the participant.
  • Participants are advised to retain a duplicate copy of their submissions in case of any unforeseen conditions which may lead to the loss or damage of the entries.
  • The HKIE accepts no responsibility for any data submission delay, lost, error, non-recognising etc. situations due to computer, network, and other technical issues. The proof of dispatch cannot be accepted as proof of delivery or successful transmission of the entry. All participants in the competition are on a voluntary basis. The HKIE will be exempted from all legal liability, compensation, and responsibility that may be caused by the competition and/or the prize.
  • Submitted entries will not be returned to participants and the personal information will be properly destroyed within six months after all competition-related activities end.

 

Judging Criteria

 

The judging panel will assess the entries on

  • Visual appeal and aesthetics
  • Creativity and originality
  • Brand alignment and memorability
  • Versatility and adaptability

 

Award and Result Announcement

 

  • The winning design may be adopted as the official mascot of the HKIE 50th anniversary (see Important Notes). The official mascot will be published on anniversary-related promotional materials and featured in publicity events and merchandises.
  • The result will be announced on the HKIE’s website and social media platforms in January 2025. The winner will also be notified via email individually.

 

Important Notes

  • The HKIE shall not be obliged to accept or approve any entry if they deem none of the entries appropriate and reserves the right to disqualify entries that do not meet the requirements or conform to the specified format.
  • The HKIE may polish and modify the winning entry, and adopt it as the official mascot of the HKIE 50th anniversary. The official mascot will be published on anniversary-related promotional materials and featured in publicity events and merchandises.
  • In case of any disputes, the decision of the HKIE in all matters relating to this competition, including whether the winning submission is to be adopted as the Institution's 50th anniversary mascot, is final. The HKIE also reserves the right to suspend, change, or terminate the competition and any of its terms and conditions without prior notice.
  • Once the entry(ies) is/are submitted, the entrant is assumed to have read and understood all the rules and regulations as stipulated in this submission guide, and agreed to abide by them.
  • Participants must NOT post their entries on public sharing or social media platforms until an official winner has been announced on the HKIE’s website and social media. Violators will be disqualified from the competition.

 

Intellectual Property Rights

 

  • By the act of entering the competition, each eligible participant is assigning a perpetual, royalty free, unlimited, unconditional use, and reproduction rights of his/her submission(s) to the HKIE. The participants also agree to accept that the HKIE has the right to display or publish the winning design from the competition for publicity and related activities for promoting the HKIE in whatever format, material, or platform anywhere, and with no time limit.
  • When the winning mascot is adopted, the HKIE reserves the right to modify the mascot professionally and/or develop different versions of the mascot with relation to its colours, size, form, resolution and all other features, with or without the consent of the creator of the winning entry.
  • All submissions must be original and free from infringement of any existing intellectual property rights.
  • The participants shall bear full legal and related responsibilities arising from any possible breach of intellectual property rights in respect of their entities, and shall indemnify the HKIE and other concerned parties against any claims and liabilities arising from any such breach.
  • If a participant is found to have disposed of to a third party, such as by assignment, transfer or provision as security, or is making application or registration procedures, etc., for all or any part of the intellectual property rights or any other rights concerning the submitted entry after the submission, the submission will be made invalid.
  • The winning designs are subject to investigations regarding originality and eligibility for trademark registration. If they do not comply with the requirement, the HKIE has the discretion to forfeit the prizes involved without any liability to the selected participant(s) or any other persons, and other entries may be selected as the winning designs.
  • Participants who violate the intellectual property protection ordinances of Hong Kong, and/or any intellectual property or copyright protection in any other country(ies) will be disqualified and held solely liable for any constituted or potential act of infringement.

 

Use of Personal Information

 

  • Any information supplied by the participants for the purpose of the competition will be treated as confidential, and will not be released by the HKIE and any third parties without the participant's permission. Personal information of participants will only be used for communications regarding the submission and selection and otherwise to the extent necessary for administrative matters for the selection.
