Introduction

The concept of safety management has recently been widely promoted in Hong Kong.  The Works Bureau and Hong Kong Housing Authority have taken initiative to introduce safety management into their construction projects.  They also require some of their projects to carry out independent safety audits to evaluate the safety performance of the contractors.  As professional engineers play an important role in safety management of construction projects, they need to possess knowledge in safety management that are generally seldom included in formal curriculum during their engineering education.  The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers recognizes the demand and jointly organizes related safety training courses with Occupational Safety and Health Council for all graduate engineers.
