The HZMB Project, with the HKP as the hub, is the gateway to the Greater Bay Area (GBA), the engine for economic growth in South China.
To overcome the time and space constraints, the project team applied innovative designs to create a legendary landmark with the following novel features:
• An iconic Passenger Clearance Building (PCB) with aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly architectural design; • The roof fabrication and erection methods for the PCB were the first of its kind in Hong Kong. All roof segments with fittings and building services were fabricated in off-shore factory using Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) method. Installation by vertical and horizontal jacking with the heaviest segment weighing 680 tons, more than the take-off weight of a large aircraft; and • A District Cooling System was installed to serve the PCB and some satellite buildings in HKP, which saves 3.5 million kW-h of electricity and reduces 2,500 tons of CO₂ emission each year. With the concerted efforts by all parties involved in the construction, the superstructures and infrastructures of the HKP was completed in an amazing 4-year period only. The HZMB project will bring about significant economic benefits by reducing the travel time to the western part of GBA from 4+ hours to 40 minutes. Project Video Project Details
