The HKIE Outstanding Paper Award for
Young Engineers/Researchers 2008

The Publications Committee of the Institution is pleased to announce that the HKIE Outstanding Paper Award for Young Engineers/Researchers 2008 is now open for submission. This international paper competition is organised in its third consecutive year. It is our ultimate goal to provide a platform for local and overseas young engineers and researchers to share and exhibit their accomplishments in various engineering fields.

Aims

To encourage young engineers and researchers to publish their works and develop in their professional fields.
To promote engineering advancement among the younger generation.

Eligibility

Aged 35 or below on the closing date of submission
Local and overseas sole author or first author of a co-authored paper

Judging Criteria

Papers will be judged according to the following criteria:
Paper organisation
Methodology
Critical analysis
Quality
Style
Clear presentation
Sources
Language

Selection Process

Each paper will be reviewed by two referees assigned by the Judges
Shortlisted papers will be further reviewed by the Judges
Result will be finalised by the Panel of Judges

Up to three Awards will be given
Each award comprises a plaque and a certificate
The Award will be presented at the HKIE Presidential Dinner to be held in September 2008 in Hong Kong
All shortlisted papers will be published in the HKIE Transactions (Special Issue - Vol 15 No 4 December 2008)
Seminar will be organised for awardees to present their award papers

Submission

Conform to the style and format requirements of papers for the HKIE Transactions
Please refer to the Submission Guidelines
Paper submitted should be origin work and has not been published or submitted for consideration of publication
Each entry should include the paper in electronic format and a completed Application Form

The shortlist will be announced on HKIE website. All entrants will be notified by email following the announcement
Subject to referees' comments, shortlisted authors may need to revise their papers for the final selection of award winning paper(s)
Additional information, ie shortlisted author's CV, photo, etc, is to be submitted for publishing in the HKIE Transactions (Special Issue - Vol 15 No 4 December 2008)
August 2008 Announcement of the awardees
The award list will be announced on HKIE website.
Awardees will be notified individually on the arrangement for the prize presentation ceremony and seminar

Panel of Judges of the Award reserves the right not to make any award.
2)
Awardees outside Hong Kong can apply reasonable travel and accommodation costs reimbursed to attend the prize presentation in Hong Kong; total reimbursement limited to available maximum; the Panel will be given the final decision on the matter of reimbursement.
3)
The Panel's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
