Chairman's
Message
It is my great honor to be elected as the Chairman
of Young Members Committee (YMC) of the Session 2007/2008.
With the effort of our Past Chairmen, Committee
members and Registered Young Members (RYM), YMC has set up a strong
tie among young engineers in all disciplines of the HKIE. Through
our active twelve working group co-ordinators, namely community
services, graduate promotion, human resources, non-technical programme,
public relations, publicity, seminars, social, culture & arts,
sports & recreation, student promotion, visits and webmaster,
we will continue to provide a variety of activities to over 4,200
Registered Young Members.
This session, YMC will
focus on the following aspects:
- To sustain future profession of RYM by nurturing
the hard and soft skills of RYM. With the overwhelming responses
from the one-day seminar on Contract Management in last session,
we will continue to organise another one-day seminar on Legal
Contract Management with other young professionals such as engineers,
surveyors, lawyers and arbitrators. Besides, a CEO Series/Leadership
and Communication Skills for Engineers workshop will be conducted.
Apart from these, we plan to explore the infrastructures in
the Pearl River Delta Region.
- To promote the professional and engineering
image of YMC. We plan to organise a professional night to meet
and exchange with other young professionals in the construction
industry, to take part in the Conference of ASEAN Federation
of Engineering Organisation to be held in Philippines in late
2007, to be host to various young engineering organisations
from overseas when they visit Hong Kong and to organise a delegation
to Australia (tentatively) in 2008.
- To increase influence in universities by
organising promotional talks, technical visits, leadership training
workshops, mentorship programmes and career talks for students
in universities. We will guide the operation of the first HKIE's
Student Chapter in the University of Hong Kong.
- To extend the contribution of YMC to the
society by organisng community services to people in need with
the input from engineering skills. For instance, we will form
volunteer teams to participate in numerous charitable events,
particularly, we will join the "Education and Development
Programme in China" organised by Sower's Action. Also,
we will co-organise a workshop on Emergency Relief Engineering
with Medecins Sans Frontieres.
This will be another prosperous Session for
YMC ahead. Please come and join our activities. Of course, you
are always welcome to give feedbacks to us for our continuous
improvement in the years to come.
