Introduction
to the Division
The Building Division was established in June 1991
and is one of the 16 Divisions of the Hong Kong Institution of
Engineers.
The aims of the Division
are to:
(a) |
promote the engineering practice of
building and construction technologies and project management;
|
|
(b)
|
strengthen the relationship amongst
members and other professional institutions; and
|
|
(c)
|
facilitate the exchange of information
and ideas in relation to buildings and construction practice.
|
The Division plays
important roles in:
|
(a)
|
enhancing the exchange of technology,
information and project management skills related to building
engineering discipline;
|
|
(b)
|
promoting interaction and fellowship
between professionals related to and/or associated with
the construction industry;
|
|
(c)
|
fostering the training of young building
engineers; and
|
|
(d)
|
encouraging suitable building engineers
to serve on various committees of the Institution and external
bodies.
|
The Building Division has over two thousand members
comprising professionals from both public and private sectors
and achieves the aims by carrying out learned society activities
in accordance with the requirements of the Institution. Each year,
the Division organises continuous professional development seminars
and training workshops, delegation visits, fellowship gatherings
and numerous conferences for the members. The annual major events
include the Annual Seminar that takes place in March and the Annual
Dinner that takes place in May following the Annual General Meeting.
The Building Division has a membership of members not only from
Building Discipline, but also from all other disciplines. At present,
members of the Division comprise leading professionals from both
public and private sectors.
