Chairman's
Message
It is my greatest pleasure to have been elected as the Chairman of Associate Members Committee for Session 2008/2009.
In this coming year, I promised that I would try my very best to promote the betterment of our Institution, especially I wish to focus on the following three major issues for the benefit of the HKIE Members and Associate Members (AM):
- To promote the mandatory registration of engineering technologists/supervisory practitioner for the supervision in construction of public infrastructures so that a registered professional supervisory team will be established, under the directives of professional engineers, architects and surveyors, to safeguard the overall quality and standards of new public infrastructures projects for our society in the new challenge century.
- To enhance our collaboration with other Divisions/Committees, professional bodies, trade unions, universities, IVE and other sister institutions.
- To promote the registration of HKIE AM under the Engineering Technologists Mobility Forum as "engineering technologist" as a way in enhancing the overall social status & international recognition of HKIE AM.
With the coming ten major infrastructure projects in the near future, our construction industry need to establish and maintain a "quality culture" in order that maintenance and running cost can be mostly cut down once every new project work has been well constructed under excellent supervision of registered professional supervisors/inspectors/technologists.
As a matter of fact, the total number of HKIE AM has been progressively decreasing in the past ten years. In order to maintain our membership level, the need to seek public recognition of the AM and timely improvement of our services for members are very urgent.
I take this opportunity to seek all member's support on our coming technical visits, seminars and meetings. Your continuous support to our Committee surely will drive us to another success. More importantly, our joint actions and attempts towards our goals will be meaningful experiences for all members to share this year again.
Continuous improvement and striving for excellence are also targets of the Committee. May I also request members to offer us feedback, no matter it is constructive or negative, so that we have the chances to know how we can improve. We definitely need your support in the coming year as you have been offering us before.
