Riding on the success of the Road Shows held in last year,
the Institution organised another one entitled "Engineering
a Green Future" in March to showcase engineers' achievements,
contributions and efforts made towards building a green
Hong Kong. The new Road Show was successfully held on 16
to 18 March 2007 at Olympian City 2 in West Kowloon. We
are honoured to have Ms Anissa S Y Wong, Permanent Secretary
for the Environment, Transport and Works (Environment) of
the HKSAR to officiate the Opening Ceremony on 17 March
2007. Members and guests from the government departments,
district council, green environmental groups, professional
bodies, industry and academia have attended the opening
ceremony to show their support to this meaningful event
of the Institution.
Numerous local infrastructures and constructions such as
Ngong Ping 360, KCRC Lok Ma Chau Spur Line, Hong Kong-Shenzhen
Western Corridor, Hong Kong Wetland Park, etc were introduced
to the general public at the Road Show. With the combined
efforts of the government and industry, the projects demonstrated
how engineers materialised the concept of environmental
protection through design, construction and operation. Visitors
were captivated by the efforts and contributions that engineers
have made towards building a safe, green and pleasant living
environment for Hong Kong.
To arouse publics' interests to the environmental works
of the engineers, a Talk Show and question-and-answer game
were organised during the Road Show. The Talk Show delivered
by the members of YMC on 18 March 2007 was well attended
by visitors. Young engineers shared with the public the
scopes of works of engineers from various disciplines. Audiences
were actively participated in the questions section during
the Talk Show.
For the question-and-answer game, visitors were eager
to find out the correct answers from the display panels
in order to win the attractive HKIE souvenirs. The game
was well received by the public with over 400 participants
each day. In response to the overwhelming requests of the
visitors who were deeply interested in the contents of the
Road Show, the Institution has uploaded the display panels
of the Road Show onto the HKIE website.
On behalf of the Institution, the Public Relations Committee
would like to take this opportunity to thank all individuals,
organisations and government departments who have contributed
to this meaningful project, in particular, the helpers from
AMC and YMC for their zealous efforts in making the event
a success.
