Young Engineer of the Year Award 2009
Call for Nominations (Extended Deadline: 31 December 2008)

 

The Young Engineer of the Year Award is organised by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) in recognition of the local outstanding young engineers who play an active and important role in building Hong Kong an international city. It is a prestigious honour of the local engineering profession for our young engineers.

 
Purposes
 
  • To recognise and honour outstanding young engineers who have made commendable achievement and valuable contribution as engineers to the continuous development of Hong Kong.
  • To encourage active participation and contribution of young engineers to the community of Hong Kong through involvement in engineering and community affairs.
  • To promote and foster professionalism, dedication, enthusiasm and leadership among young engineers.
 
Eligibility
 
Nominations are invited for the selection of the Young Engineer of the Year Award 2009. Candidates should
 
  • currently be a Corporate Member of the HKIE;
  • be of age 35 or below at the closing deadline of nomination on 15 December 2008;
  • be proposed by a nominator who should be a Corporate Member of the HKIE or a public/private organisation. Each nominator or nominating organisation shall nominate one entry only. Self-nomination will not be accepted;
  • be supported by two referees who should be a Corporate Member of the HKIE.
 
Selection Criteria
 
Eligible candidates will be judged on the basis of their involvements, contributions and achievements in the engineering profession including their participation in the affairs of the community and the HKIE.
 
Selection Process
 
A shortlist of entries will be drawn up on the basis of the proposals for nominations. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews by the Panel of Judges in February 2009. The Award winner will be notified at the end of February 2009.
 
Proposal for Nomination
 
Proposal for nomination must be comprised of:
 
  • A completed Nomination Form.
  • Two referees' reports to provide written character reference for the candidate, which confirm his/her achievement and contribution as an engineer to the profession and the community. Judges may contact the referees for further information or clarification, if necessary.
  • Copies of relevant supporting documentation, where appropriate.
 
Award Presentation
 
Presentation of the Award will be made at the HKIE Annual Dinner on 18 March 2009. The Award winner will receive a trophy and an award certificate. The Institution will support the Award winner to represent the HKIE and to attend a conference outside Hong Kong within the year following the day of receipt of the award certificate. Certificate of Merits could also be given at the discretion of the Panel of Judges.

All proposals for nominations must reach the HKIE Secretariat no later than 5:00pm on 31 December 2008 and address to:
