It is my great pleasure to be elected as the Chairman of Environmental Division for Session 2008/2009. The successes in the past Sessions provide me with guidance and examples which enable me to better serve our fellow members.

With the awareness of the need to protect our environment, the Division has the vision to promote environmental engineering by collaborating with other engineering disciplines with a view to improving the living environment of the community. In the past Session, the Division focused on two activities namely “Blue Sky Engineering” and “Climate Change” which provided platforms for discussions on combating air quality and exchanges of views on tackling climate change. We will continue to organise activities on these topics.

There are concerns on disposal of solid waste in Hong Kong. In this Session, we will pay particular effort in reducing solid waste. We will also explore methods and technologies in the disposal of solid waste and their possibility of being reused in Hong Kong.

I understand that it is not an easy task to be the Chairman of the Division. I rely on my delegated Committee members who are committed to assisting the organisation of seminars, technical visits, conference and symposium, etc for our members. We would also collaborate with other Divisions to organise joint activities. I look forward to meeting you in the coming activities and we are pleased to have your comments and feedback anytime.
