What is an Engineer?

Through the examples of our daily lives, the Talk aims to introduce to students the contribution of engineers to the betterment of people’s lives to help them gain an understanding of different engineering disciplines. In addition, it is expected to provide a valuable opportunity for students to learn more about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects and the engineering profession, and to arouse their interest in engineering.

Get Ready to be an Engineer

The purpose of the talk is to offer career information and advice to students. The talk intends to exemplify the very dynamism of the engineering profession to students and enable them to have a deeper understanding and appreciation of the engineering profession so as to facilitate them in charting their plans and careers in the future.

Engineering a Sustainable Hong Kong

The objective of the talk is to showcase the efforts engineers have made towards the sustainable development of Hong Kong. The talk demonstrates how engineers improve our living place and conserve the natural resources through various designs, constructions and operations.

Hong Kong People Engineering Wonders

The objective of the talk is to exemplify the contribution engineers have made to our society. The talk intends to introduce to students the masterpieces of Hong Kong engineers (Up to Year 2013) and the winning projects from the election of the Hong Kong People Engineering Wonders in the 21st Century.

Infrastructure for Economic Growth

The objective of the talk is to introduce the infrastructure projects in Hong Kong and the efforts paid by the engineers. The talk demonstrates how infrastructure development can bring about huge economic benefits and how engineers can enhance the living standards of society.

Meeting with the Outstanding Young Engineers

Speakers of the talk are the recipients of the HKIE Young Engineer of the Year Award from 2003 to 2021. The biographies of the speakers are set out in Appendix I for your reference. You may indicate your choice of speaker on the enrolment form for this topic. This talk aims to provide a platform for the experience sharing between these outstanding awardees and the students. It is hoped that these elite engineers could act as role models for the students to plan for their own future. Teachers are welcome to liaise with the speakers for the most suitable topic according to the interest of students.
