Visit to Dunwell Enviro-Tech Holdings Ltd and MTR Corporation Ltd, Lok Ma Chau Depot

This is an optional programme. Delegates of ICWEM 2008 will have the opportunity of joining this site visit to Dunwell Enviro-Tech Holdings Ltd and MTR Corporation Ltd, Lok Ma Chau Depot. No additional fee will be required for delegates who have registered for the Full-Programme.
Dunwell Enviro-Tech Holdings Ltd
With total floor area of 100,000 sq ft in Yuen Long Industrial Estate, Dunwell is the largest independent used oil recycling and disposal plant in Asia. Beside the traditional distillation system, Dunwell have also been recycling used oil with a new, international award winning technology, VMAT system. This self-designed Vibrating Membrane Used Oil Recycling technology revolutionized the used oil recycling industry with its special low temperature & pressure operation capability. These special features mean a much lower cost and energy efficiency that offer return of investment in less than 2 years. In fact, the technology has just won the Winner Award from the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) -Environmental Award in London on Oct 5th, 2006, and the Bronze Prize from the Wall Street Journal- Asian Innovation Award in Singapore on Oct 31st, 2006 and the Grand Award of 2005 Hong Kong Award: Machinery & Equipment Design Category and back to back international awards,. Participants will have the chance to understand and compare Dunwell's two different used oil-recycling technologies. Beside waste oil recycling, Dunwell also provides environmental solutions and technologies for chemical waste treatment, wastewater treatment.

MTR Corporation Ltd, Lok Ma Chau Depot
The Lok Ma Chau Spur Line is a landmark railway project linking Hong Kong to the Huanggang and Futian areas in the western Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. This line provides a strategic second rail cross-boundary access between Hong Kong and the Mainland. From planning to implementation, the project has experienced different challenges in particular those relating to the conditions set out by the Environmental Protection Department. The visit will discuss the requirements associated with the compliance of the Zero Discharge Policy imposed on the sewage effluent discharged from the Lok Ma Chau Terminus. We will also showcase the methodology of using a biological wastewater treatment system with a reed bed system to achieve the desirable results.

Visit to Ngong Ping Sewage Treatment Works and Ngong Ping 360

This is an optional programme. Delegates of ICWEM 2008 who are interested in joining this Site Visit, please register with the Conference Secretariat. Ticket price is HK$150 per person which covers the site visit to Ngong Ping Sewage Treatment Works, a round trip cable car ride by Ngong Ping 360 and a light lunch.
Ngong Ping Sewage Treatment Works
Located with the water gathering ground for Shek Pik Reservoir and surrounded by country parks, Ngong Ping Ngong Ping Sewage Treatment Works (NPSTW) employs tertiary sewage treatment technology and is the first tertiary treatment works in Hong Kong.
NPSTW is designed to meet the sewage collection, treatment and disposal needs of Ngong Ping and its surrounding area airising from the anticipated substantial increase in tourists upon the opening of the Cable Car System and associated tourist developments at Ngong Ping.
NPSTW adopts the technology of Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR), dual media filter and disinfection process to reduce organic pollutants, suspended solids, nutrients and pathogenic organisms in the sewage to a very low level.

Ngong Ping 360
The 5.7 km Ngong Ping Cable Car ride is a unique and remarkable elevated journey that commencs from Tung Chung and rises up to the themed Ngong Ping Village on the heights of Lantau Island. Ngong Ping 360 provides you with breathtaking views of North Lantau and the South China Sea.
Visitors will enjoy some of the best views during their joyful 25-minute ride: the vistas of the distant and vast South China Sea and the rolling grassland slopes of North Lantau Country Park from the cable car dramatically change from the hustle and bustle of the city, to the serene and natural surrounds that Lantau is famed for.
