Professional Background: Born in 1943 in The Netherlands. In 1970: Ir: Plant Pathology, Agricultural University Wageningen (Fungal soil borne pathogens) In 1978:Dr.: University Groningen (Effects of lead on the soil-microflora). Present Position: Senior Advisor (Director Doelman Advice) After 20 years of scientific research (1970-1990, Nature Management) plus 10 years of employment as advisor for large consultants (DHV and Royal Haskoning) Doelman started his private consultancy on remediation of soil/sediment and groundwater contaminants: proven technology & green technology. The book "Vital Soil; function, value and properties" (2004; Elsevier; Developments in Soil Sciences Volume 29) is his last child. His technical knowledge concerns the fate of contaminants in soil, sediment and groundwater (i), the realistic judgement of chemical and physical soil characteristics (ii) and the practical approach (techniques, principles, monitoring aspects) of remediation of contaminated soil/sediment and groundwater (iii). He is active in technical communication/extension in the practical world, such as for Shell (Brazil and Gabon) for Consultants and for governmental institutions (Ministries, Provinces, City of Rotterdam). Moreover he was invited to give workshop on Soil Remediation (Science versus Practice) in The Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Italy and South Africa. The Dutch Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and Environment appointed him in 2006 as their "scientific advisor" to promote in China Dutch Policy on Contaminated Soil & Groundwater. He is also the scientific conscience of Netherlands Soil Partnership, a Dutch network on all aspects of Soil Policy. |
