The Hong Kong Construction Sector 5.12 Reconstruction Joint Conference Dear members, As you may aware, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (HKSARG) has been actively participating in the post-quake relief work in the Sichuan earthquake stricken areas. A Steering Committee has been formed by the HKSARG in overseeing and coordinating its efforts in support of the reconstruction of the earthquake stricken areas. Five working groups have been formed under the Steering Committee in discharging its objectives. Out of the five working groups, a "Working Group on Reconstruction Works" has been formed and led by the Development Bureau. The Working Group is dedicated to assist local authorities in the stricken areas in mapping out reconstruction plans and assist in the reconstruction of infrastructure and community facilities. In this connection, the "Hong Kong Construction Sector 5.12 Reconstruction Joint Conference", convened by the Development Bureau is being set up with 10 trade associations and professional institutes as founding members. The Institution is one of the founding members of the Joint Conference. To enhance more participation a website for recruiting professional volunteers to provide assistance in the reconstruction work will be soon set up. If you are interested to volunteer, please register accordingly. Under separate cover, the Institution is also soliciting participation from other engineering institutions.
