Launching of Engineering Technologists Mobility Forum (ETMF) International Register of Engineering Technologists in Hong Kong, China
Introduction
The HKIE is pleased to announce that the above register will be available for registration on and after 1 February 2008. The Institution has been authorized by the Hong Kong ETMF Engineering Technologist Monitoring Committee to implement the register. The following are the details for registration.
ETMF International Register of Engineering Technologists in Hong Kong, China
The HKIE signed as a signatory to the ETMF Agreement on 13 June 2003 in New Zealand. The Agreement was also signed by the representative bodies in five other signatories, namely, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa and United Kingdom.
The purpose of the ETMF Agreement is to establish and maintain an ETMF International Register of Engineering Technologists and this Agreement intends to provide a framework for the recognition of experienced engineering technologists by responsible bodies in each of the signatory economy.
This Agreement provides a framework within which the appropriate responsible body in an economy may, to the extent it considers appropriate, recognise the substantial equivalence in professional competence and standing of experienced engineering technologists licensed, registered or otherwise deemed eligible for independent practice in another economy within which the signatory organisations have standing.
The signatories note that such registration will only be effective if the responsible bodies in the relevant economies accept the validity of the procedures and criteria through which substantial equivalence is established, and streamline the procedures for granting rights of practice in their economies to registrants applying through this mechanism.
The signatories will therefore use their best endeavours to ensure that responsible bodies in the economies within which they have standing to use the International Register as a foundation upon which to streamline procedures to be adopted in dealing with applications by registrants based in the economies concerned.
Each signatory of the ETMF Agreement undertakes to implement an ETMF International Register of Engineering Technologists in their own jurisdictions as the first step of implementing the Agreement.
Upon the establishment of registers in each of the signatory of the ETMF Agreement, the ETMF Co-ordinating Committee shall liaise with the Monitoring Committees of each signatory economy on the next steps moving towards assisting ETMF Engineering Technologists registered in each signatory economy to practise in other signatory economies.
