Young Engineer of the Year Award 2010 - Ir Mandy Leung Man-yee
The presentation of the Young Engineer of the Year Award 2010 was also made at the 35th Annual Dinner. This year's Award went to Ir Mandy Leung. The award is to honour an outstanding young engineer who has made commendable contributions to the engineering profession, to the community and to the Institution.
Ir Leung is an electrical engineer specialising in transmission network planning. Having obtained her Bachelor and Master's degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Hong Kong, Ir Leung joined Swire Properties as a management trainee. She then joined CLP Power Hong Kong Limited in 2001 and started her career in the power industry. As a grid planning engineer responsible for the planning and design of the grid transmission network in major areas of Hong Kong, Ir Leung is making an important contribution to the future development of this city. As a strategic planner providing support for the corporate development group, Ir Leung was also involved in managing regulatory issues with Government bureaus. In 2009, Ir Leung pursued an MBA degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong to enrich her management knowledge. Her academic background and working experience in strategic management and transmission network planning have provided her with a great foundation for development into an all-round engineer.
Ir Leung is actively involved in the promotion of the engineering profession. She has served the YMC of the Institution since 2003. With a view towards uplifting the status of engineers in Hong Kong and broadening their overseas exposure, Ir Leung organised various continuing professional development programmes and overseas delegations to Dubai and Denmark.
Apart from devoting herself to engineering practice, Ir Leung has also served the community and nurtured the younger generation through education. She has served as a part-time English tutor for children of new immigrants at the Portuguese Community School and is also a mentor of the Path Builders Mentorship Programme, which was set up to help secondary school students suffering from drug abuse make an early recovery.
This year, three young members, Ir Clement K M Fung, Ir TSE Lok-him and Ir Dr Kelvin W K Yeung were also presented with Certificates of Merit.
