The HKIE President's Award 2011 - Ir Peter K K Lee
The presentation of the President's Award was made at the 36th Annual Dinner. In recognition of the dedicated and valuable service of the member of any class who has served the Institution with distinctive achievements, the President's Award has been set up by the Institution. This year, Ir Peter K K Lee was conferred the President's Award for his immerse contributions and remarkable achievements.
Ir Peter Lee is a very dedicated Fellow who has been strongly committed to the development of the qualifying areas of the Institution. For more than 13 years he has served a total of seven boards and committees of the Institution, including the Council, Accreditation Board, Structural Discipline Advisory Panel, Education and Examinations Committee and Fellowship Committee. As the Chair of the Education and Examinations Committee and Fellowship Committee, Ir Lee has played a very significant role in the qualifying function of the Institution. Currently, he is a Co-opted Member of the Council and a Director of the Engineering Forum.
Apart from the Institution, Ir Lee has also been active in serving the community. He represented the HKIE on many external committees and working parties and was a Member of the Construction Industry Council as well as the Appeal Board of the Urban Renewal Authority. He is at present a Director of the Hong Kong Green Building Council, a Member of the Building Committee of the Housing Authority and a Member of the Panel of Experts for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Project.
Ir Lee is the Associate Dean of Engineering at the University of Hong Kong. After a few years working in the UK, he returned to join the University in 1970 and has been involved in teaching and research activities ever since. He was the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, where he is now an Honorary Professor and Special Advisor. Whilst at the University, Ir Lee has been instrumental in weaving a closer relationship between town and gown. In the late 1970s, he developed the part-time Master of Engineering degree programmes, which were specially designed for the continuing education of practising engineers.
