The HKIE Prize for Outstanding Engineering Students
Aims
The Prize is introduced
to recognise the engineering students of Higher Diploma and equivalent courses with excellent academic achievements;
to encourage them to pursue their careers in engineering profession;
to promote the HKIE to students of Higher Education; and
to encourage our aspiring engineers to participate actively in the HKIE activities.
Awards
The Prize will be awarded to a maximum of ten engineering students of Higher Diploma and equivalent courses. Each successful candidate will receive a certificate and a cash prize of HK$3,000.
Eligibility
Candidate should:
be a permanent resident of Hong Kong;
be a Year 2 or Year 3 student studying any Higher Diploma or Associate Degree engineering programme accredited/recognised by the HKIE in a local tertiary institution;
have outstanding academic results;
aspire to pursue a career in engineering profession after graduation;
have strong leadership ability demonstrated in his/her extra-curricular activities and community service;
be recommended by the Head of Engineering Department of the tertiary institution.
Application Procedures
The tertiary institutions offering engineering Higher Diploma or Associate Degree as accredited/recognised by the HKIE will be invited to make nominations for the Prize.
Nominations should only be made by the Head of Engineering Department of the tertiary institution. Each tertiary institution can nominate a maximum of five candidate
Nominations must be submitted together with
a statement of recommendation by the Head of Engineering Department who is in support of the nomination;
copy/ies of the candidate’s academic results at the tertiary institution;
copy/ies of the candidate's HKCEE results; and
copy/ies of the candidate's HKALE results if applicable.
Nominations must be completed and returned to the HKIE on or before 17 June 2011.
Selection Procedures
A Judging Panel composed of senior members of the HKIE will be set up to short-list and interview eligible candidates.
The selection criteria will be based on the candidate's
HKALE/ HKCEE results;
Academic results at the tertiary institution;
Participation in extra-curricular activities/community services;
Enthusiasm in pursuing a career in engineering profession; and
Performance at the interview.
Candidates will be short-listed and invited for an interview in Aug/Sep 2011. Candidates not invited for interview by October 2011 shall consider that their application not successful.
The HKIE reserves the right to reject or disqualify any application. The decision of the HKIE Judging Panel will be final. In the event of their being unable to find candidates of sufficient merit, they may withhold all or any of the awards at their absolute discretion.
Announcement of the Results
The tertiary institutions and the individual awardees will be notified of the results in December 2011.
Presentation of Awards
A certificate and a cash prize of HK$3,000 will be awarded to each successful candidate.
